Randolph County Commissioner named Member of the Coal Communities Coalition under the NACo BRECC Initiative

3/23/2023

The National Association of Counties (NACo) has announced the selection of Dr. Marc Kiehna, Randolph County Commissioner, as a local leader to participate in the Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities (BRECC) initiative, a Community of Practice supported by the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Through the BRECC initiative, 20 local leaders and eight community teams were selected to participate in the Commitment Coalition and Action Challenge. The selectees span across 13 states and will receive technical assistance and peer learning support to strengthen and grow opportunities in local economies that have been shaped by coal industries. BRECC's Commitment Coalition will share best practices among community leaders through site visits and peer exchanges, and the Action Challenge will support community teams to create an economic diversification strategy.

All selected Commitment Coalition members and Action Challenge communities will also participate in BRECC's National Network (open to all coal community stakeholders from across the county), which features economic revitalization and diversification resources and a bi-monthly virtual learning series.

UCCI offers its congratulations to Dr. Kiehna.
