Historic legislation providing employees with up to 40 hours of paid leave during a 12-month period was signed into law by Governor Pritzker on March 13, 2023. With the signing of SB208/Paid Leave for Workers Act into law, Illinois becomes the third state in the nation, and the first in the Midwest, to guarantee paid leave.
Illinois workers will begin earning paid time off, to be used for any reason, starting January 1, 2024.
