Members of the Illinois State Senate met in Springfield on Sunday, January 19, 2020, for the purpose of electing a successor to retiring Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago).
Senator Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) was elected as the 39th President of the Illinois State Senate. Harmon was first elected to the Senate in 2002, and brings 17 years of experience in the upper chamber to his new position.
President Harmon announced his leadership team on the first day of the 2020 Legislative Session.
