Developed by University of Illinois Extension, in partnership with UCCI, the Leadership Academy provides leadership training on issues important to elected and appointed county officials, including managing change, using data for decision making, assessing your leadership style, managing economic development, crisis communications, and more. For anyone seeking to manage and lead more effectively, the Academy offers a learning network and cutting-edge information.
The curriculum is designed for county officials who want to explore innovative ideas and learn practical responses to current issues, challenges, and opportunities. Instructional sessions allow participants to learn, share, and apply on a variety of practical and pertinent topics.

One applicant per member county; additional applicants will be on the waiting list and added if there is room.
Participation is limited to 30 individuals. Participation in at least five of the six instructional days is required. There are no fees for meals, materials, or lodging. Participants who successfully complete the Academy will receive round-trip mileage reimbursement for both retreat sessions. Mileage will be paid at the IRS 2024 established rate of 67 cents per mile. Mileage will be calculated from the county seat of the member county to the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
Session Format (attendance is required at both sessions):
Thursday (start time noon) – Welcome luncheon and afternoon seminars
Friday – Morning & afternoon seminars
Saturday – Morning seminars (Depart mid-day)
